1st Museum of Islamic Art Doha
We start our tour in Doha, the capital of Qatar. Don't miss a visit to the free Museum of Islamic Art - one of the top Qatar attractions. The building, designed by the Chinese star architect I. M. Pei was opened in 2008.

Inside, a collection of many of the most important works of art from the Arabian Peninsula can be found on a good 260,000 square metres. The emirs of Qatar present a large part of their important collection here.

These are not only paintings, but above all textiles, ceramics, books, weapons, historical artefacts and documents of far-reaching historical significance.

They have been gathered from all over the medieval Arab world - from Southern Europe to Central Asia. The museum is spectacularly located on an artificial island in the harbour area of the capital.

It can be reached from the old town via a beautiful palm-lined promenade. The distance is about one kilometre and can thus be easily covered on foot - especially as the walk to the museum is already a great experience.

At night, the building is beautifully illuminated, so it's best to take a look both during daylight and after dark.

By the way, the museum offers the most beautiful view of Doha's skyline.

2. desert safari
Our top Qatar travel tip: take a desert safari. On a desert safari, you'll get to know Qatar from a completely different perspective.

Whether you plan a half-day excursion or even an overnight stay in a desert camp - many things are possible. Accompanied by an experienced guide, you will travel in an off-road jeep through the seemingly endless sand desert.

However, it is not quite as hostile to life as it seems: with a bit of luck you will encounter monitor lizards, hedgehogs or mice. Of course there are also camels. BBQs or trips to a bathing bay are often offered at the end of the tour.

3 Souq Waqif Doha
Also located in the capital city of Doha is Souq Waqif. This is the most famous market in Qatar. At the southern end of the promenade, you can enjoy a shisha or a coffee while soaking up the bustle and atmosphere of a typical Arab market.

Strolling along the stalls in the alleys, the flair of traditional trade unfolds to the full. Everywhere, small shops offer typical local specialities and oriental goods - from spices and perfume to jewellery, clothes and handicrafts.

There is probably no other place where you can get hold of some great souvenirs so easily. On top of that, you will gain an insight into the culture and daily life of the people in Qatar. The market unfolds its full magic in the evening hours between 7 and 11 pm.

4. beach promenade Corniche Doha
If you feel like it, you can explore the entire bay of Doha on a walk of about seven kilometres. This is possible via the Corniche, a waterfront promenade that offers a breathtaking view of Doha.

The promenade is one of the Qatar highlights and is also appreciated by the inhabitants of the metropolis as a local recreation area. There are bars, cafés, dining options and sports facilities here.

Memories of a lively seafaring past come to mind when you see the wooden dhow in the water in front of the bay. But you can also keep an eye on modernity during your walk along the Corniche: gigantic skyscrapers and a vibrant business district.
